Delivery Information

Our highly specialist delivery company operates nationwide to deliver our handmade furniture. Every home we deliver to receives the undivided attention of a friendly and highly trained team who place your furniture into your room of choice.

This page outlines details about our delivery options, timeframes, and charges. If you are ever unsure, just drop us an email, or give us a phone, and we will get back to you promptly.

We, like many others in the furniture and retail industry, are unfortunately experiencing the effect of the global shipping crisis. Demand for containers is outweighing supply, and ports around the world are congested as they look to return to normal following the pandemic. This means that we are seeing some delays to our standard lead time.

The industry is in this together, however as a company we are taking active steps to adapt and mitigate these delays as much as possible. Please read how here.

COVID-19 is continuing to have an impact here in the UK, and around the world. We understand that during this period we need to keep both our customers and delivery staff safe. If you are self-isolating, or concerned about receiving a delivery, we are happy to deliver safely to your doorstep, please just drop us an email or give us a call and we will speak to you personally.

As we move further into 2022, we are hopeful that these delays will continue to ease, and we want to thank each and every one of you for your patience and understanding.

From the AKD team

Delivery is FREE for all orders over £499*

*Terms and conditions below:

Standard 2-person delivery
This applies to our standard 2-person delivery, placed in the customer’s room of choice.

Small items (£499 and under) – why do wehave a delivery fee?
Our carriers (as with most carriers) charge a minimum delivery fee whatever the size of the item, hence we have to pass some of this charge on. We could increase the price of the item to cover this but this would disadvantage you if you ordered several small items.

Heavy items
Items such as large bookcases, display cabinets and tables may have an additional charge. These often require extra delivery time and staff – please ask for a quote.

Large number of items in an order.
If there are a large number of items on an order (over 2 cubic meters worth), this reduces the number of deliveries that a van can make in a day. A charge may be made to cover these extra costs – please ask for a quote.

Scotland postcodes
In addition to the above points, Scottish postcodes incur an additional flat rate charge (listed in our coverage section). Apologies to all our Scottish customers, however the extra-long distances and time are not covered within the standard pricing structure. We are really happy to look at discounts for large orders to help with costs. Please also note some postcodes are on Islands which will mean ferry journeys and possible overnight stays – this will add extra charges to those quoted in our coverage section.

Hugely complex deliveries
Very complex or large orders to remote postcodes or where access is particularly difficult will incur additional charges – please ask for a quote

This applies to standard mainland only, if ferry crossings, overnight stays are involved etc. we are happy to provide a quote. Discounts will apply for multiple items.
Please ask for details.

Delivery Areas Covered

We cover mainland UK, England, Wales and Scotland*. We do not deliver to Isle of Man, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Channel Islands etc. However, you are welcome to arrange your own collection from our warehouse or we will happily deliver to an address for onward shipping by your agent. Please note that once an order is collected or we have delivered it to your shipping agent, we cannot be held responsible for any ongoing delays, loss or damage.

Our Delivery Options

Standard Delivery:

A 2 person service, your item(s) will be placed in a room of your choice as long as it is safe to do so. Please note flats with many floors or unusual parking conditions may require additional charges, and unwrapping, assembly and removal of packaging is not included in this service.

White Glove Delivery:

A specialist 2 person service which includes unwrapping, assembly of your furniture in a room of your choice, and the removal of all packaging. Our experienced delivery teams are used to taking care with your items, so why not get them to do it. Single Person Delivery:

A simple kerbside delivery, or to a ground floor room, is handled by a single person. Smaller items will often be delivered in this way. This service relates to non made-to-order items only.

Please note: The specialist delivery service we use is not a dedicated service, that is we cannot offer specific delivery dates, and slots are arranged in conjunction with delivery routes and economic planning.

Delivery: How It Works

Made-to-order items
We work in partnership with a specialist furniture delivery company to deliver your handmade pieces. They are experts in manoeuvring furniture through the tightest of spaces and these gurus can operate in homes of every shape and size. This being said, we do prefer to know of any awkward access as our furniture is often large and bulky. We may therefore have to get a quote to cover the time needed to navigate your space, or if our gurus arrive and your wonderful furniture doesn’t fit through the door – re-deliveries and returns are chargeable, so worth double checking.
Once your order is ready for dispatch, the delivery company will contact you directly to arrange a date and time slot. This can be either by text (preferred method), phone or email. If you need to contact the delivery company, please call us at AKD furniture and we can supply the necessary contact details if required.
It is important you are at home to receive and sign for the delivery as most items are not suitable for ‘leaving next door or back of the shed etc’ and you may be charged for a failed delivery which was not the fault of our carriers.
Deliveries are arranged based on delivery routes and area visits, and prior to leaving our carriers have to ensure all customers on that delivery run are at home and can accept the delivery. This is not always easy, hence you might be offered a slot with only 24hrs notice, however we always endeavour to give at least 48hrs notice. You can of course refuse the slot.
This is not a dedicated delivery service so unfortunately we cannot offer specific delivery dates, however we try to mitigate this by delivering early mornings and late evenings. There is normally a delivery in your area once a week, or to more remote areas fortnightly, however delivering custom-made furniture nationally is complex and we cannot guarantee delivery times.
Customers are of course welcome to arrange their own collection and delivery from our warehouse or we are happy to deliver to a port address – please get in touch for more details. We are unable to accept returns once items have been collected from our warehouse or signed for at the designated port address.

In stock items only
Normally delivery will be within 14 days but can be longer if delivery slots provided are not convenient or delivery is to remote postcodes or Scottish postcodes*.
We use a specialist delivery firm who will take your order directly from the warehouse to your premises – this does mean the delivery can take longer than the courier type service but we believe, from many years of experience, this is the best and safest way to make deliveries.
*Scotland: these deliveries are done by a specialist local delivery firm. We will first deliver to this firm for onward delivery to you and as such deliveries can take longer.

How we are mitigating delivery delays

The industry is experiencing ongoing delivery delays, however as a company we are taking steps to adapt and mitigate these delays as much as possible.

  • Our family believes in being honest and open, and that starts with increasing communication and transparency with our customers. As soon as we know anything, so will you, and we will even send you the ship name and link so you can track its progress to the UK
  • We are working smarter – being more strategic with our container bookings, getting them ahead of time where possible and fighting for every slot we can get our hands on
  • We’re paying higher fees for our containers so that we can get your orders into the UK as quickly as possible without passing these costs on
  • We have built a strong partnership with our specialist delivery company – and together we are working with more understanding and flexibility to adapt as challenges arise As we move further into 2022, we are hopeful that these delays will continue to ease, and we want to thank each and every one of you for your patience and understanding.
