Chippendale Coffee Table

This attractive Chippendale coffee table manufactured by AKD Furniture is constructed in solid mahogany.
It measures just under 4′ wide by 1’10” deep (120cm x 55cm). It stands just shy of 18″ (45cm) from the ground being just about the perfect height for a coffee table.

The perfect coffee table for the traditional home but would be equally fantastic in a more contemporary setting as a focal point.

The high quality and crisp carving is done in our AKD Furnitures dedicated factory and features the famous cabriole legs finishing in ball and claw feet. The top of each curved leg is carved with vine leaf detail. There is a shaped skirt or plinth between the legs and in the centre there is some more detailed floral carving. Above this skirt are two rows of rope carving which extended all the way around the top of the coffee table. These two rows of rope carving which is sometimes known as ‘pie crust’ carving, are separated by a plain stretch of mahogany. The top is finished to a wonderful satin sheen and over the years this finish will improve in its richness of depth by the application of suitable, quality furniture waxes.

Chippendale Writing Desk

Thomas Chippendale used this design in many of his most finest pieces of furniture however the cabriole leg and ball and claw feet had been in existence for many years prior to this, its just that Mr T. Chippendale used this style in the design of many of his pieces. Another example is this writing desk where you will note the same table top edging and leg shape. Hence the reason we have come to associate this particular design with Thomas Chippendale.
